Tax and licensing overview
All businesses with a physical location in Louisville need a sales/use tax license, even if they do not sell any goods or services.
Businesses that are not located in Louisville but do business in the city also need a sales/use tax license.
Every licensed business must renew its license by January 1 each year. This applies if they are still operating in the city or reporting sales/use tax. Licenses cannot be shared or transferred. If a business has more than one location, it must get a separate license for each one. The yearly license fee for businesses in the city is $25.
After your license is set up, you can access your online sales tax account to:
- View your account history
- File a tax return and pay online
- Renew your license
