Tree City USA
For more than 45 consecutive years, Louisville has been recognized as a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation. This designation recognizes the City's long-standing commitment to planting, protecting, and caring for community trees.
Trees provide many benefits to Louisville. They improve air quality, provide shade, support wildlife, reduce stormwater runoff, and help make our neighborhoods, parks, and trails more beautiful and enjoyable.
Louisville's urban forest includes more than 10,000 trees on public land. The City Forester oversees the planting, pruning, and care of these trees to help ensure a healthy and resilient tree canopy for future generations.
The Louisville Arboretum, established in 1996, features more than 200 tree species and serves as a living classroom for residents and visitors. Together, these efforts help preserve and grow the community's urban forest while promoting environmental stewardship throughout Louisville.
